ICML 2009: Continuing Education: Putting EBP into practice: EBP Journal Clubs

Presenter/s: Prof Chris Del Mar, School of Medicine, Bond University

Biography: Prof Del Mar was appointed as Dean of Health Sciences and Medicine at Bond University in 2004, and Pro-Vice Chancellor of research, Bond University, in 2005. Prior to this he was Professor of General Practice at the University of Queensland between 1995 and 2004. During this time he was also Head of the Division of Community Health and General Practice, and established and was inaugural director of the University of Queensland's Inala Health Centre of General Practice. This practice continues to host considerable teaching and research activities. He was appointed visiting professor of general practice at Oxford University in 2007.

Session: The workshop will be delivered by three experts in EBP: Prof Chris Del Mar; Prof Jenny Doust; and Prof Mieke van Driel. The focus is on how to:

1. Make EBP part of the clinical service routine
2. Provide peer support for the process
3. Increase the "EBP Skills" of those participating
4. Provide a central focus for evidence to be discussed
5. Provide a non-threatening environment for clinicians

Often these need a library science expert to assist initially, and intermittently as a consultant. We will provide our experiences, and engage the workshop participants in an informal and collaborative manner.
