Session:

Background: In the Millennium Development Goals, the United Nations has noted the need for improved access to current and relevant health information in low-income countries. One of the principal projects to foster this is the HINARI project (see biography). This workshop will be geared toward ICML participants from HINARI eligible institutions with a second group of participants being individuals in industrialized countries that have institutional linkage to organizations in these eligible countries. Both groups would benefit from such training and serve as facilitators for training and usage of HINARI.

Course Structure/Material Content: The course structure will be approximately ½ lectures and ½ 'hands on'/ computer-based activities. The principal topics will include health information on the Internet, an overview of searching skills and website evaluation, HINARI website, PubMed (as applied to HINARI) and marketing/repackaging/training skills for the optimal use of these resources. The various training materials also will be reviewed.

This session is free to all HINARI participants and those working with HINARI libraries.
