Biography:

John Pearn is the Patron of ICML 2009. He is the Preceptor of the School of Medicine,  Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Queensland and a former Surgeon General of the Australian Defence Force.   He has a lifelong professional commitment to history and heritage; and is the author of more than 100 research articles, 15 books and 30 book chapters in the fields of health and heritage as these relate to medicine, biography and military history. He is a founder, later National President and currently Honorary Life Member of the Australian Society of the History of Medicine. He is a Member of the Commitee of Management of the International Society of the History of Medicine; and a Gold Medallist of the American Biographical Institute and (for his services to medicine, history and medical ethics), an Honorary Visiting Fellow of Green College, Oxford, United Kingdom. In 2009 he received the highest honour in Queensland by being made an Officer of the Order of Australia.

Due to unforseen circumstances Dr Donald A B Lindberg, from the US National Library of Medicine, will be unable to attend the congress. In his place Professor John Pearn, patron of ICML, will present on the topic Australia Medical Best-Sellers.
